In today’s fast-paced world, organizations strive for innovation and impact. Founded in 2018 by visionaries Anita Karki, Willem Reuser, and Ivan Spikmans, Stichting Ghost embraces this ambition with the motto, “Dream to Dare to Develop.”

We believe in the transformative power of dreams, pushing boundaries and effecting change in our communities. From its inception, our organization has fostered a culture of courage and growth, thanks to the pioneering spirit of Anita Karki and Ivan Spikmans. At Stichting Ghost, we dare to innovate, take risks, and explore unconventional paths, fostering a culture of courage and growth.

Welcome to Stichting Ghost, where dreams become reality and development never halts. Our vision is to empower individuals to realize their fullest potential through active participation in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) challenges.

Our mission is to make STEAM exploration engaging and enjoyable by offering challenges that foster hard skills like 3D modeling, programming, and manufacturing as well as soft skills such as presenting, creative thinking, and planning. Our comprehensive approach emphasizes teamwork, respect, and integrity, making learning
fun and integral.

We set a standard where joy and challenge coexist in learning, upholding responsibilities to our volunteers, community, and environment. Join us at Stichting Ghost and ignite the spark of innovation and growth in every individual.

Vision

Foster an environment that enables countless individuals, igniting their intrinsic motivation and inspiration to reach their fullest potential through active participation in STEAM challenges.

Mission

Empower individuals to explore the dynamic world of STEAM through engaging challenges, where learning becomes a dynamic and enjoyable experience. Our mission is to cultivate not only hard skills such as 3D modeling, programming, and manufacturing but also essential soft skills like presenting, creative thinking, and planning. Beyond acquiring technical proficiency, participants will also grasp the importance of teamwork, respect, and integrity. By establishing a standard that integrates fun and challenge into the learning process, we aim to make acquiring new knowledge an integral and enjoyable part of their lives. In fulfilling this commitment, we uphold our responsibility to our volunteers, community, and the environment, inspiring others to embrace our model of impactful learning.

Strategy

With motivated, qualified and self-sufficient volunteers who are forward thinking and acting, we aspire to live up to our goal of exceeding STEAM challenge expectations. We make investments in research and development, as well as constant improvements to our volunteers and facility, and in doing so continually improve our capabilities. As an independent foundation, our focus is on the long-term and we strive to make STEAM challenges a commodity in education.

Committing to continuous learning, growth, and the sharing of knowledge.

The six E's - Our Core Values

At the heart of our foundation are core values that shape our identity and guide our mission. We prioritize education, believing in the transformative power of knowledge to inspire and equip individuals for success in the STEAM fields. Empowerment drives us to foster leadership and initiative, enabling each person to realize their full potential and make a positive impact. Enjoyment is fundamental to our approach, ensuring that learning and growth are engaging and fulfilling experiences. Ethics guide every decision we make, emphasizing integrity, transparency, and accountability in all our endeavors. Equality is central to our commitment, promoting inclusivity and fairness to create a supportive and diverse community. Finally, exploration fuels our curiosity and drives innovation, encouraging us to push boundaries and discover new possibilities. These core values collectively define our organization, guiding us as we strive to empower youth and foster a culture of lifelong learning and innovation in STEAM.

What is FRC

FIRST was founded in 1989 by American inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen, with inspiration and assistance from physicist and MIT professor emeritus Woodie Flowers. Kamen was disappointed with the number of kids—particularly women and minorities—who did not consider science and technology careers and decided to do something about it. As an inventor, he looked for activities that captured the enthusiasm of students and decided that combining the excitement of sports competition with science and technology had the potential to inspire students.

FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school and university robotics competition operated by FIRST. Each year, teams of high school students, coaches, and mentors work to build robots capable of competing in that year’s game. Robots complete game-specific tasks which have included: scoring balls into goals, hanging on bars, placing objects in predetermined locations, and balancing robots on various field elements. The game, along with the required set of tasks, changes annually. While teams are given a kit of a standard set of parts during the annual Kickoff, they are also allowed and encouraged to purchase or fabricate additional specialized components.

Nowadays, 2000+ teams compete each year to become world champions. The video below is the ‘theme reveal’ during the Kick-off that explains all the objectives of the game and how points are made.

What is FTC

FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is the next step in the FIRST robotics program and is aimed at students aged 12 to 18. Unlike FRC, FTC robots are smaller and are built using a modular system, allowing teams to focus on engineering, programming, and strategic design while working within a more accessible budget.

Each season, teams receive a new game challenge and spend several months designing, building, programming, and testing their robots. During competitions, robots must complete specific tasks on the playing field, earning points through a combination of autonomous operation and driver-controlled gameplay. Success requires not only technical skills but also teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and effective project management.

FTC provides students with hands-on experience in STEM fields while developing valuable real-world skills. Thousands of teams from around the world participate every year, competing at regional, national, and international events. Through collaboration, innovation, and friendly competition, FTC inspires the next generation of engineers, programmers, and technology leaders.
